Neck Pain

Chiropractic Neck Pain Treatment

Neck pain is a common complaint of many of our Birmingham area patients who travel from various parts of the Detroit Metro area to seek neck pain treatment from the capable hands of our chiropractor. Some were involved in auto or work accidents. Others have osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, or spinal stenosis. Some are paying the price for a lifetime of poor posture. They all have one thing in common: they leave our Birmingham Wellness Center pain-free once more.

What Our Chiropractor Will Want to Know

Our chiropractor will give you a thorough physical examination. X-rays and/or other imaging tests may also be ordered to determine the type and extent of care you need. Just as important as these tests are the answers only you can provide to questions such as:

• How long have you been experiencing neck pain and how did it start?

• Is it isolated or does it radiate to your shoulders and hands?

• Have you taken medication for it? If so, did it work?

• Have you sought any other type of neck pain treatment? If so, what were the results?

Our chiropractor uses all this information to formulate a specifics schedule of spine adjustments to address your unique condition. However, the relief you will soon feel is anything but unique. Patients have been experiencing it all over the world.

Research Findings on the Efficacy of Chiropractic in Treating Neck Pain

Several renowned medical journals have published evidence-based accounts of how chiropractic care has been shown to help with neck pain.
The Journal of Manipulative and Physical Therapeutics looked at the published findings of nine clinical trials and reported all the groups of chronic neck pain patients enrolled in the trials not only experienced significant reductions in their pain levels following spinal manipulations, but were still reporting the same levels of relief up to twelve weeks later.

The Annals of Internal Medicine reported on the findings of a National Institute of Health (NIH) funded study that tested how well three different modalities of neck pain treatment, (1) chiropractic spinal manipulation, (2) over the counter (OTC) medications muscle relaxants, and opioids; and (3) exercise regimens worked. The comparative results were:

• After 12 weeks, 57% of spinal manipulation recipients, and 48% of those who exercised, experienced up to a 75% or greater reduction in pain versus 33% of those who took medication.

• After 12 months, 53% of the spinal manipulation recipients and exercisers still reported the same 75% pain reduction while the medication group only a 38% reduction.

Spine Journal analyzed chiropractic care usage and found that back and neck pain were the most prevalent reasons patients visited a chiropractor, and the majority reported not only did chiropractic help "a great deal" with their pain, it improved their over-all well-being and health.

Believe us, judging on what we see in our patients, we are not at all surprised!

Our practice takes a holistic approach to healing, embracing several healing modalities. After a thorough chiropractic examination, our chiropractor will recommend a traditional spinal adjustment, but may also supplement it with acoustic compression therapy, nutrition counseling, massage therapy, or Applied Kinesiology.
